What is a spread / Asian handicap?
The head start
A spread hands one side a fake head start so the price can sit near even. You are not betting who wins. You are betting whether they cover the gift.

American football loves −3. Soccer loves −0.5 and −0.25. Hockey often uses a puck line of −1.5. Same toy, different scoring.
Whole numbers can push: if you take −1 and they win by exactly one, the ticket is a refund. Quarters (0.25 / 0.75) split the stake across two nearby lines. That is why an AH ticket can half-win.
A middle is two different head starts at two shops. If the result lands between them, both sides can cash. That is a different article — and a different risk.
takeaway−1.5 means they must win by two. +0.25 can split a ticket. Half a goal is a whole different bet.
